Q: What happens when the hard disc drive is full?

A: The CCTV system will automatically delete the oldest recording and continue to record.

Q: How much data storage or back-up is required?

A: It’s up to you. Just tell us how long you wish to retain footage for and we’ll configure your system accordingly.

Q: How do I keep footage that I may want to look at in the future?

A: We show you how to move event footage to a USB portable drive, or store it on a segregated portion of the hard disc drive where it won’t be deleted.

Q: What is a surveillance hard disc drive?

A: A hard disc drive that’s manufactured to a higher quality than standard discs because it will be in constant use, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Q: What is HDD monitoring and why do I need it?

A: We remotely monitor your hard disc drive (HDD) performance so we can alert you to any issues which may have occurred, e.g. power surge corrupting the HDD. This is exceptionally important, as live images will still be visible on your monitor even if the system has stopped recording due to a HDD fault. By being proactive, we ensure you’re always made aware if your system is not fully functioning.

Q: Do I need to buy a monitor?

A: No, all of our installations include the supply of a monitor at the controller.

Q: Can I see the footage from my computer?

A: Yes, client software is available for most of our systems, so you can watch it on your Windows P.C.

Q: Who can view recordings?

A: Viewing of cameras is determined by the user’s authority to view some or all cameras, as defined by the business owner or an authorised person in your business.

Q: Who can view recordings via remote access?

A: Viewing of cameras on the remote App is determined by the user’s authority to view some or all cameras, as defined by the business owner or an authorised person in your business.

A: Via an App we’ll help you set up. Please note, an internet connection is required on site and wherever your mobile device is located.

A: Yes, with our XVR CSI Remote App, you can view recorded footage remotely.

Q: Why are cameras different shapes?

A: The location and position of a camera will determine the best housing (shape of the camera) to be used. For example, a bullet camera may be better with direct sunlight whereas a dome camera in a low position may be best to use in that location, given its vandal-resistant qualities.

Q: What does Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 products mean?

A: While there are no Australian Standards in place for CCTV hardware, in approximate terms, each Tier implies a quality level for both equipment and software.

Tier 3 = Consumer Grade, pre-configured kits, e.g. residential or domestic use.

Tier 2 = Commercial Grade, professional install and set-up required, e.g. business use.

Tier 1 = Enterprise Grade, systems of high complexity, e.g. prisons, casinos.

Q: What is the difference between residential, commercial and enterprise grade products?

A: As no Australian Standards exist to assist customers, the difference between residential, commercial and enterprise grade products can be subjective and tends to be widely misunderstood. Your CSI consultant will help explain the differences and your options during one of our comprehensive demonstrations. This is the best way for you to understand the different quality levels of products available.

Q: Can I upgrade my rental or payment plan if my needs change?

A: Yes, if your needs change, your rental or payment plan can also be changed.

Q: Can I add cameras to my system in the future?

A: Yes, systems can be expanded upon, or upgraded when the need arises.

Q: Where do I need to locate the recorder?

A: It’s your personal preference. Typically, customers choose to install it in their IT Server area, however it’s up to you.

Q: Is an 8MP Camera twice as good as a 4MP camera?

A: Not necessarily. We can show you 2MP cameras with superior image quality to 4MP and 8MP cameras. Megapixels (MP) are not the only determinant of image quality. Lens quality, processing chip and tuning of settings of components within a camera are major factors in the image quality you’ll experience. Our CSI consultant can explain this to you during a demonstration.

Q: Do all CCTV cameras need to be hard wired?

A: No, we can wireless connect cameras if required.

Q: How long does installation actually take?

A: The length of installation time is different for each customer’s site. We accommodate customer requirements by varying the timing and number of installers devoted to a given installation.

A: Please contact your insurance provider to discuss this.

Q: I’m confused by all of the jargon, what is WDR, PTZ, Smart IR, 360° fisheye, etc.?

A: The best way to understand all of the variables and options available to you is to devote 40 minutes to a demonstration in our Osborne Park showroom. This is conducted following our initial site visit of your premises to understand your needs.
